PLACE

What we do

PLACE acts through five interconnected areas of work, each addressing key dimensions of justice, civic participation, and resistance to criminal systems in Africa.

Land and climate justice are considered cross-cutting and transversal to all these efforts:

Trafficking and Organized Crime

We raise awareness on serious and organized crime including drug and human trafficking, environmental crimes, illicit arms trade, and cybercrime. We highlight their local and global impacts and support communities resisting these exploitative systems.

Corruption and Governance

We promote anti-corruption measures and support civic monitoring initiatives to foster transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in public life.

Victims and Transitional Justice

We advocate for the recognition of victims of organized crime and promote transitional justice mechanisms that support truth-telling, reparation, and reconciliation. PLACE stands with survivors and their communities in their demands for justice and dignity.

Prevention and Education

We believe in long-term prevention through education, arts, and sports. By involving young people and local communities, we work to dismantle cultural acceptance of illegality and foster inclusive alternatives.

Confiscated Assets

We promote the social and public reuse of assets confiscated from criminal organizations, turning spaces of oppression into places of community regeneration, culture, and opportunity.

PROJECTS

What we do now

The PLACE network regularly participates in transnational projects aimed at confronting organised crime, corruption and bad governance, and to promote equity, peace and solidarity in African society.
